Look for another Sock Knitting Workshop this Fall – Fall is a wonderful time to learn how to KNIT SOCKS. This is a workshop for the person who already knows how to knit, purl, cast on and cast off. Learn to knit with double pointed needles. Socks are great to wear when the weather is wet or damp or chilly; they keep your feet warm. There are so many choices to knit with – fingering, sport or worsted weights; plenty of fiber combinations to select from. Socks also make great gifts.
Time Commitment: 3 nights
(to be determined) 7pm to 9pm. To be held at
our studio, Neighborhood Potters, 2034 Fairmount Avenue.

To Register: call Rosie’s Yarn Cellar at 215.977.9276. If paying at the first session, please make check out to Rosie’s Yarn Cellar; otherwise payment must have been made prior to start of workshop. Class size is limited to six people.

Cost: $ 75.00 for the three week workshop. Sock pattern is included in the fee. However, each student must supply their own g needles and yarn for the class. If you do not already have the materials, stop by Rosie’s Yarn Cellar and purchase your supplies for the class.

New techniques: This class could introduce you to double pointed needles, picking up stitches, short rows, slipping stitches, kitchner stitch.

The workshop is geared to making an adult sock for the person taking the workshop. Week 1: find your gauge and get started on the cuff and leg of your sock. Week 2: heel construction and shaping and picking up the stitches for the gusset. Week 3: the foot and toe completing your first sock and getting started on the companion (so you don’t end up with a drawer full of one sock syndrome). After that you are on your way to adding to your knitting accomplishments.

Bio: I have been knitting for 26 years and have taught workshops in Philadelphia, New York City and Maine. My passion for knitting rivals the intensity that the golfer has for golf, the jogger for running and the chef for cooking. In other words, I have stash. In 2005, I founded the Men’s Knitting Circle that meets once a month in Philadelphia. I am a firm advocate of knitting in public and have received everything from congratulations to stares.
